MARY PHILLIP

When it comes to making history, Mary Phillip is in a league of her own. As the first Black woman to captain the Lionesses, she’s a pioneer who helped shape the women’s game into what we know and love today.

A tough tackling defender, who earned 65 caps for England, playing a key role in two FIFA Women’s World Cups. She was part of the Lionesses’ debut on the world stage in 1995 and helped push them to the quarter-finals in 2007.

Her club career is just as impressive. Starting with Millwall Lionesses, Mary became one of the first women to play professional football in England. She moved on to Arsenal, where she was part of the Invincibles squad who won the quadruple! She finished her playing career with a stint at Chelsea. By the time she retired in 2008, Mary had collected seven FA Cups, five Premier League titles, a UEFA Women's Cup, and a reputation as one of the best in the game.

Mary is now the head coach of Peckham Town’s men’s team - the first woman to hold that position. She's proved that she's just as influential on the sidelines as she was on the pitch. In 2020, she led Peckham Town to lift the London Senior Trophy.

If you’d like to bring Mary’s unique insight on leadership, engaging humour, and inspiration to your event, then please get in touch.
